the current mapserver configuration is quite basic, to be able to create a fully functional mapfile we need more information from the user:

To be added are:

  • path to mapfiles on the server, default could be ""
  • url to mapserver cgi binary

Not sure about

  • Proj path
  • Fonts path
  • Path where temporary images are stored & url where they are available

This is from bridge4arcmap manual

Seems in ftp mode, some additional fields are displayed. Mind that most of these fields (except the actual ftp connection details) are also valid for the store-local use case. Files stored locally (or on a network drive or mounted webdav folder) can also be instantly made available to be exposed via mapserver (so preview would work also here).

My setup for example is running mapserver in docker with a mounted folder from the host system where i run qgis, mapfiles created by qgis are instantly exposed via the mapserver docker

a thing we were considering is to allow the sys-admin to place a config file on the server folder to where bridge is publishing, in that config file some server parameters like proj-path, fonts-path etc can be configured so bridge doesn't need to ask them from the enduser.
