I thought this was just something that happens when you use plugins in Wine but I can't replicate the behaviour in Reaper or qtractor. When I open or close (particularly close) guis of plugins the sound hangs with a nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn sound, like a beat repeater on a very small size setting. It stays like this for 2 or 3 seconds and then everything goes back to normal. It seems to happen with all vsts I've tried, both instruments and effects.

I have tried with the rt patch for wine and without it, it makes no difference at all.

I tried using alsa instead of JACK and I don't get the nnnnnnnnnnnn sound but instead it just mutes all the sound, all audio stops for the same amount of time and then continues to play again after the 2 - 3 seconds, no not much better or different really.

The same vsts open and close with no audible effect at all in Reaper and in qtractor I don't get the hanging sound and the music continues to play.

I have wine 1.7.29 with the following USE flags enabled (X alsa fontconfig gecko jpeg mono mp3 ncurses nls opengl perl png prelink realtime run-exes ssl threads truetype xml).

I'm really trying to find out whether this is normal and expected or whether it is a problem with renoise, or the bridge, or wine.

Hi spectromas,

I have no idea what your issue is. Yet, I recommend you to try
https://github.com/phantom-code/airwave which is a next gen vst-bridge.
Also you might want to give a try to the linux port of u-he synthesizers:

Cheers,
Alex.

Hi abique,

I've used vst-bridge until now and had the exact same issue with the hanging sound but never get around to look for a solution.

A few days ago someone told me about airwave which I didn't know to exist until then. My first impression was very good, and I wanted to compare both projects and found this github issue here by coincidence.

Now my question is about the status of your project. I see you recommended airwave, but I also see quite recent commits to vst-bridge. That puzzles me. Would you be so kind and explain your long term goals concerning this project?

Regards,
Mateusz

Same thing here, same sound freezes "problems", and I was using vst-bridge cause there is more recent commits too :p
