GIT INFORMATION

  • Git is designed to save relative changes between text files and allows you to see distinct points across a history of changes through "commits"
  • Git is folder based: can branch off to develop a certain aspect of code, work on it independently from the main branch, then merge changes between them
  • General workflow: commit changes after relevant progress points, push changes daily
  • Useful commands: git status to see the status of various files, git add to add a file to the "changes to be committed" heading, git commit -m "Notes" to commit changes (pay attention to symbols, quotes, and apostrophes in notes), git push to push changes
  • Revision commands: git log to see file hashes, git checkout to see either hashes or go back to main
  • To pull changes from GitHub: git pull then Ctr+c then :q +enter, should change everything okay

@andrewfagerheim - We should read this paper: https://agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1029/2022GL100450 They are talking very specifically about the Arctic, but based on a quick skim it seemed very relevant to your proposal.
