How do we create, design and implement data vis centric tools?
How do we evaluate their usefulness or success ?

Hot topic for me!! The really cool thing about SVG and D3 is your UI "canvas" is unconstrained. Can we re-think what a UI is going way beyond a form containing the mundane textfields and buttons? How do you make it comprehensible for the more complex cases especially when there might not be any comparable and familiar examples out there. That is the challenge to make it intuitive.

For evaluating the usefulness or success, we need to make what we build more introspective. Having a human watch every user clearly does not scale but if our components were smarter about the role they play then maybe we could interrogate them to find out how useful or successful they are.
