Display Settings

Aidan Murphy edited this page Jun 20, 2018 · 4 revisions

The Display Settings window enables users to easily load, edit, and save parameters related to the visual display hardware, software and physical geometry of the experimental viewing environment. These variables are stored in the Params.Display structure. The upper panel automatically detects settings of the local machine, and whether PsychToolbox extensions are currently available on the Matlab/ Octave path.

System Profile

The information shown in the system profile panel is automatically acquired by querying the local machine. Importantly, if critical components are not detected or do not meet a required standard then that line will be highlighted in red and will need to be rectified in order for experiments to run correctly.

Viewing Geometry

This panel allows the user to tell the system about the physical viewing geometry of the experimental setup. This is important for scaling stimulus images and other display elements that are specified in degrees of visual angle (rather than pixels or metric units).

Experimenter Display

The experimenter display is an exact copy of the subject's display, with additional data (such as current gaze position) overlaid. This panel allows the user to configure some of the typical overlay elements:

  • Toggle grid on/off; set grid colour; set grid spacing (degrees visual angle)
  • Toggle eye position on/ off; set gaze cursor colour; set number of samples of gaze position to display
  • Toggle fixation target window(s); set fixation target window colour; set fix target transparency (0-1)
  • Set background colour
